Say good bye to annoying eye twitches

You are watching television or trying to carry on a conversation with someone and all of a sudden it happens. Your eye starts twitching. You can feel it, you know everyone can see it and
there's nothing you can do to stop it. You may ask Why does my eye twitch?. Eye twitches happen to people all the time and, unfortunately, they happen often. This article will help you to understand them better and what you can do to help prevent them.

What causes eye twitches?

It is believed that muscle spasms in the eyelid causes eye twitches. Because of this, it is believed that it is related to the nervous system. Most think that these muscle twitches can be related to emotional stress or physical eye strain. For example, staring at the computer all day can cause it to twitch. This type of eye twitch is not considered serious and is usually transitory.

Technically speaking, eye twitching is called blepharospasm. It can even have triggers like smoking or bright light.

There are more severe forms of eye twitching that can even lead to blindness. Botox injections can affect the nerves that cause these twitches and are considered to be the main cause for severe muscle twitch es around the eye.

If your eye itself starts twitching, there could be a more serious underlying problem. You could have a condition called nystagmus. This is caused by a defect in the eye's motor system.

What are the symptoms?

There are really only two symptoms of this condition. Twitching around the eye is one and the while the other is full facial twitching. Now if you have either or both of these symptoms, it does not necessarily mean that you have the condition. You will probably ask yourself, "why does my eye twitch?"

Treatments

You probably want to know the eye twitch remedies so that you can make it stop after knowing the possible causes. Minor eye twitching usually resolves itself, but it could not help to reduce your stress, maybe a warm soak, or some refractive correction could help.

Serious eye twitching can be treated with medications, biofeedback, botox injections, or surgery. Medications and biofeedback are very seldom successful in managing your twitch es, but they may be recommended in milder cases or cases where no other treatment is working.

Botox injections are the most common type of treatment for these types of twitches. If botox is injected in small quantities in the muscles around the twitch, it should relax it and make it stop. The injection will work for several months, but it will eventually wear off and have to be repeated. This treatment is very successful with very few side effects. The few rare side effects that can occur are eyelid drooping, double vision, and dry eyes. These side effects do subside at later stages.

Your eye doctor may suggest that you have surgery to remove the nerve that is causing your eye to twitch. Or he could suggest that you have the spastic muscles removed. The results from the surgery are permanent and any side effects you may have will probably be permanent.

Can eye twitches be prevented?

Do you wonder if they can be prevented? Then the answer is yes. First, you should try and redu ce the stress in your life. If you are seriously stressed in your life, then you might want to look into some stress management ideas. Whether it is a long soak in the tub, yoga, or a massage, you need to get the stress out and relax a little. Another thing you need to watch out for is fatigue. Make sure you get enough rest and at least eight hours of sleep. If you have one of those toss and turn nights, then maybe you should try and take a nap the next day or even get into bed early would help. Another idea is to switch to decaffeinated tea or coffee. Too much caffeine in your diet can keep you awake at night.

Now that you have all the information about what causes your eye twitches you do not have to wonder why does my eye twitch anymore. If you heed the advice within this article, you should be able to prevent your twitches naturally, but if it becomes a chronic nuisance, then it might be wise to go see your doctor. He or she can recommend the best treatment for you and your condition. Even in the initial stages it is best to treat the problem by yourself. But should you require medical attention you must immediately seek it. You must never practice self medication not only for eye floaters but for any ailment connected with the eye and other parts of the body. Any problem can be cured if proper medical attention is sought in the right time.
