Laser eye surgery uses a laser beam to gently reshape the surface of the eye to improve vision. The laser removes small bits of tissue to raise the cornea for far-sightedness, flatten the cornea for near-sightedness or smoothes out the surf ace of the cornea for astigmatism. The goal of eye corrective surgery is to put the cornea back to original shape. In returning the cornea to its normal shape, light is bent correctly creating perfect vision every time.Is eye surgery a remedyAs mentioned above, the most common types of corrective laser eye surgery is to repair the damaged corneas seen in near-sightedness, far-sightedness and astigmatism. As many people become old the areas directly behind their corneas begin to become cloudy, a condition known as cataracts. Photo-refractive keratectomy or PRK is known today to be the pioneer of the corrective eye surgery movement. PRK's result is essentially the same as other laser eye surgeries mentioned above, but the cornea is reshaped from the outside. In other forms of eye laser surgery, a flap is cut in the eye, and the cornea is reshaped from inside.
Limbal Relaxing incisions are used to treat people with mild to sever astigmatism. With this procedure, the surgeon creates tiny cuts in the area where the colored and the white part of the eye meet. When the eye heals, the abnormal corneal shapes seen in astigmatism are flattened out by scar tissue.
